Rice-A-Roni?

Yes, we have no bananas... but how about Rice-A-Roni?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

A pure genius on the NBC message board chat tonight suggested we send Rice-a-Roni, a reference to the show being set in San Francisco. I will be contacting nutsonline (the Nuts for Jericho people) for advice to see how we could go about sending loads of boxes of Rice-a-Roni to the NBC offices. What would presumably happen is a website would be set up to take small donations which would go towards shipments of the San Francisco treat for the NBC execs, with a nice fat flyer attached "Rice-a-Roni in support of Journeyman" I'll get back to you soon as the plan develops, and as always, please share your feedback! savejourneyman@gmail.com

The Rice-A-Roni could be easily donated by NBC to local charities (good press for both us and them).

Rice-a-Roni is good but how about... Cellular phones! Remember how J-Man is always looking to communicate when he goes back. He is always filling his pockets with stuff he can use way back when. EVERYONE I know has a monster brick of a cell phone sitting in a shoe box on the top shelf of their coat closet (+ adapter & charger). If we could send all of those to our hero Dan, via NBC, maybe they would get the clue that we want to 'stay in contact' with J-Man for a few more years. Downside? Shipping & Handling would be alot more than "Box-o-Rice".

That's another great one! The only reason I'd favor Rice-A-Roni over old cell phone related stuff is because it can be donated to charity. In addition, many fans would go through the effort of packing up their old cell phones and mailing them to NBC, but I think a casual fan would be more inclined to just donate a few dollars in order to have Rice-a-roni boxes delivered.

Again, I've heard a load of great ideas about items related to the show (bubble gum, poker chips, and this one with the cell phones), but in the end, I think the food related shipments are the ones that are the most viable in terms of ease of delivery and the positive publicity of being donated to worthy causes.

Thanks for your support!

Old cell phones can be donated. They can be set up to dial 911 only and are given to women and children who are victims of domestic abuse. I don't know how old is too old though - some phones are obsolete I am sure...

Kind of expensive but you can buy rice a roni by the case on amazon.

Maybe we could negotiate crazy low bulk price with Amazon - they would get a lot of media attention with something like this.

I'd join in on the Rice A Roni mail in campaign. I also think that Asprin would be a good symbol of the show since he gets a headache right before he travels in time.

I also have an idea of a way to show NBC how many people watch the show. What if we call coordinated to watch all of the online episodes on a given day. Like the day Life airs in Journeyman's spot?

NBC.com doesn't have all of the Journeyman episodes online, but it has quite a few. If we could do that it might make an impression because you know that they watch the traffic on those online episodes.

Let me know what you think! I have a movie review site that I could post the idea on at http://www.groundlings-review.com . You can contact me at http://www.denniswest.com/contact/

After checking with a lawyer friend (significant other), NBC would be hard-pressed to pass on a physical food stuff to anyone if it had been sent through the mail... Specifically cited is the threat of deliberate contamination with the intent to commit bodily harm (read terrorism). The network would open itself to intensive litigation if someone were to fall ill or die. On the other hand, a coupon or voucher for said food stuff could easily pass the test.

tanzitwo: Then how exactly did CBS do that with the peanuts?

I find it hard to believe that donating sealed foodstuffs directly from a known distributor (like nutsonline or a similar distributor) would be considered dangerous.

There are constantly holiday food drives of non-perishable food items all the time.

I never said "donating sealed foodstuffs directly from a known distributor" would be considered dangerous. (That is what the coupon/voucher would cover).

Buying, wrapping and sending a box of rice (your own personal self) thru the postal system is what I eloquently shared/warned of with y'all.

Ahh, that makes a lot more sense lol.

I'm still not sure what's so different about that versus a food drive with food donations though. I mean, churches, boy scouts, and organizations like that accept food donations all the time.

If you think about it, any food item anywhere can be tainted/poisoned at any time.

And the bulk delivery is better than the coupons/vouchers simply because of the size of a big delivery, but that's definitely another way to let NBC know how you feel.

In the end, seinding anything will help, but I think that we need to get behind one "main" big campaign, in addition to any other letters, items, etc that we want to send, like with the cell phone idea.

Again, there are lots of great ideas, and they should all be explored as long as those items are sent with a note explaining that it's in support of Journeyman and why. But for the "big showstopper" that the media notices, I think the best anyone has come up with so far is the Rice A Roni.

I was reading through and I just remember that one the creators of Journeyman is now a bigshot on FRINGE. I found a good fringepedia at a http://fringewiki.info
